Technology: Good or Bad?
We live in a society that embraces technology, but we have we ever stopped to consider whether it has harmed our society or helped it? With texting, IMing, and e-mails, the ancient art of letter writing has become obsolete. These previously mentioned forms of communication have also suppressed our natural writing and spelling abilities due to abbreviated words, acronyms for common phrases, and the usage of symbols and numbers substituting for words. At the same time, you can't help but think of the ways email, Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, and even video chat have helped Earth become a smaller place. Current day technologies can put you in touch with any person, in any place at any time without leaving the comfort of your own home. The choice is up to you, is current technology, good or bad?
Along with communication technology we've been introduced to entertainment technology, including television, video games, Ipods, and MP3 players, These items give us a way to pass the time and in current day society it seems impossible for anyone to live without them. Yet we have only lived with televisions, worldwide, for the past 62 years! The invention of these forms of entertainment caused the world to stop playing outdoor games and doing other physical activities. Instead we are sitting inside starting at televisions, computers, video games, and filling our ears with loud music making ourselves into zombies that crave entertainment technology. While on the other hand, we have much use for television and computers to update us on current events. As a result of television we can have stations like CNN, MSNBC, FOX, and other news stations that let us know what is going on in the world at any point in time. We depend on our technology forgetting that it hasn't always been there. Is leaning on technology for entertainment worth losing the joy you can experience in a simple game of Double Dutch or in the relay race with neighborhood friends?
We've looked at all types of current technology and listed some of the pros and cons of it all. I've given my opinion but now it's time for you to decide. Will you let technology rule you or will you find a balance between the great outdoors and modern entertainment and communication?
